Over the past 6 months or so we have felt the Lord nudging us in another direction in our homeschool. We are in our third year of hs and have observed differences in the way the girls learn. Em can sit all day at a table and do school if she had to, Jori needs to move around, bouncing on a yoga ball while she does her multiplication tables is a good example. I have spent months reading books written by Dr Raymond Moore and recently borrowed seminar cd's from Carole Joy Seid. As Jim and I listened to the cd's it all began to fall into place for us. More reading less workbooks!
Monday morning found us at the kitchen table, We completed Math, penmanship and language arts in about
1 1/2 hours. History is Ancient Rome, following our co-op this year and Science is astronomy this year. History is completely literature based. We love that! Reading is the favorite thing to do in our house.
Jori and I are reading a sweet series about a Deer Mouse and a Porcupine by Avi, a large portion of the day was spent reading aloud.
While I read the girls built with Lego and blocks, at one point a fabulous model of the Colosseum sprang up out of blocks. While I was reading science a model of a rocket was built.
We have also included an hour of quiet time in our day, everyone in a bed, reading or doing something as quiet, thinking, praying, just spending some time being still.
Today has gone just as smoothly, before lunch the girls spent about 45 minutes reading poetry to each other. As I'm typing this they are making sugar cookies(by themselves).
We felt the Lord's hand very strongly as we made the decisions to change up our day and are feeling so blessed by it. God is good all the time!
